Since 1983 American media company US News & World Report have published rankings and analysis for many different industries. They are best known for their influential ‘Best Collge’ and ‘Best Global University’ rankings. The ‘Best Global University’ rankings for 2014 were announced earlier this week revealing the top 500 universities in the world.

Universities from the United States dominated the top of the list as they are home to eight of the top 10 and 17 of the top 20 schools. They had 114 of the top 500 schools including Harvard who topped the list. Europe had the most schools in the top 500 of any continent, they are home to 214 of the top rated universities. Germany had the most of any European nation and was second globally behind the United States. Germany was also named the world’s favourite country earlier this year.
