Bookmakers’ Favourite – Switzerland
(Source: YouTube Eurovision – Switzerland 2024)
Switzerland has become a major player in recent years with many strong performances. They finished fourth in 2019 and took third place in 2021. This year’s entry, The Code by Nemo, combines elements of pop, rap and opera and has been attracting a lot of attention, especially with fans on Reddit who think it could go all the way. Odds of 2/1 make it the clear Eurovision bookmaker favourite suggesting the Swiss could do even better this year.
Nemo, who identifies as non-binary, is expected to attract lots of support from the LGBTQ+ community which is a key factor when it comes to the public televote. However, with the current odds now standing at just 2/1 (from 7/1), offering a total return of just £30 for a £10 stake, it might be wise to look elsewhere for some better value bets.
Second-favourites Croatia is one such alternative. Their entry Rim Tim Tagi Dim by Baby Lasagna comes with a strong narrative, often a crucial component for Eurovision success. The Croat song, which comes from an independent artist who was not in the original lineup for national selection, depicts a moving story that portrays a young boy’s journey from Croatia to seek a better future in a foreign land.
The track has an alternative rock vibe while still maintaining mass appeal and its lyrics are relatable and fun. We predict that this entry will be a big hit with the televoters which could lead Croatia to its first ever win and would be the perfect fairytale ending at Eurovision.

(Source: YouTube Eurovision – San Marino 2024)
With 37 countries taking part it’s worthwhile looking beyond the Eurovision favourites. There’s no shortage of underdogs to consider and Eurovision does sometimes produce surprise winners, especially if it comes with a good back-story. In 2024 these include the likes of Malta, Luxembourg, Portugal and San Marino. Who will make it through, following the results of the first semi-final?
San Marino have struggled in the competition so far having only qualified for the final three times in 13 attempts. However, this year’s entry, a catchy alternative rock anthem, appears to be very popular with fans on YouTube. It also has been given a good draw in the running order in the weaker semi-final. Odds of around 4/1 offered by the best Eurovision betting sites for them to reach the final could be an interesting bet.

Tips For Betting on The Eurovision Song Contest
Here are some Eurovision betting tips to keep in mind before you place any bets.
Research the Songs
It’s worth taking the time to review all the participating songs which are available on YouTube several months before the event. Look out for unique, catchy songs that you think will go down well with both the jury and televoters. Also consider the genre, performance quality as well as the artist’s popularity and back-story. These factors can often point to possible surprise winners which can make their victory blatantly obvious in hindsight.Understand the Scoring System
It’s important to keep up to date on the scoring system and voting patterns. Eurovision is well known for strategic voting among neighboring countries. To address this the scoring system has been adjusted in recent years. Now 50% of the final scores are derived by a panel of ‘experts’, the jury vote, who represent their country with the other 50% coming from the public in a televote. Look for songs which will appeal to both the juries and the general public.Consider the LGBT+ Vote
Eurovision is a celebration of diversity through music and is therefore extremely popular with the heavy voting LGBT+ Eurovision fan base. This means flamboyant or ‘camp’ acts can perform very well in the televote. Recent examples include the 2014 Eurovision winner, Conchita Wurst, a bearded drag performer from Austria.English Songs Dominate
Language restrictions were lifted in Eurovision in 1999 allowing contestants to perform in languages other than their national ones. Since then only four songs in non-English languages have won Eurovision, Serbia in 2007, Portugal in 2017, Italy in 2022 and Ukraine in 2023. This is another important consideration when selecting your Eurovision bets.Live Bet on the Eurovision
Live betting is available throughout the Eurovision final allowing you to place bets as the action unfolds. With the jury scores announced first followed by the televote opportunities may arise for what are known as ‘back-to-lay’ propositions. This strategy involves backing a contestant to win at high odds and then betting against them once the odds shorten thereby securing a potential profit. For example, we expect the French entry to be rated quite highly by the juries but perhaps not so by the general public. So once the jury results are in, the French may well be trading at a lower price. The Betfair exchange is the perfect betting site for live betting on Eurovision. New customers also collect a welcome bonus to use on their sportsbook.
When are the Eurovision Finals?
The 2024 Eurovision Song Contest final is scheduled to take place on Saturday 11th May in Malmo, Sweden. Prior to the grand final there are also two semi-final events on the preceding Tuesday and Thursday which will decide the final line-up.
- Tuesday 7 May 2024 – Semi-final 1
- Thursday 9 May 2024 – Semi-final 2
- Saturday 11 May 2024 – Grand Final
Eurovision Betting Markets
There are many other betting odds for Eurovision on offer beyond predicting the overall winner. These include betting on which countries will qualify for the final, Top 3, Top 5, Top 10, Jury Vote Winner, Tele Vote Winner, Top Balkan Country, Top Nordic Country, Last Place and many more.
Outright Winner
The most popular Eurovision betting market simply asks you to predict the contest’s overall winner.
Top 3
This market offers a little more flexibility as your Eurovision bet will be deemed a winner if your selection finishes in the top three positions. However, the betting odds on offer will reflect this.
Top 5
Similar to the Top 3, this market covers the top five positions. This is advantageous when betting on the underdogs who you think could go close if not quite winning. It can also be used as a ‘cover bet’ to effectively back your selection each-way (i.e. to win and to place).
Top 10
For those wanting a safer bet the Top 10 markets pays out if your selection finishes in the top 10 overall positions.
Semi-final Qualification
These simple two-way yes/no markets for each country allows you to bet on which songs you think will make the final or those who will be eliminated.
Semi-final Winners
You can also bet on the outright winners of each of the semi-finals. However, bear in the mind that we will not know the result of the semi-final winners until the final results are known.
Top Scandinavian / Nordic Country
There are Eurovision betting odds available on selected regional groups meaning you only have to pick the winner from a much smaller group. This group requires picking the best performing country from Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland.
Top Balkan Country
The Balkan countries group consists of Croatia, Greece, Serbia, Slovenia and Albania.
Top Baltic Country
The Baltic group is a simple three-horse race between Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia.
