In yet another scam this new year, hackers have stolen NFTs worth more than $300,000 from an NFT influencer CryptoNovo. The scam attack appeared barely one day after other scammers stole more than $173,000 from RTFKT Chief Operations Officer Nikhil Gopalani.
CryptoNovo Lost Over $300K In A Scam Attack
In a January 4 blog post, a non-fungible token influencer, CryptoNovo, confirmed losing two CryptoPunks worth more than $300,000 in a cyberattack. At the time of the theft, one of his NFTs was worth $88,434, while the other was worth $251,404.

CryptoNovo is a digital assets influencer and the head of the eponymous community. CryptoNovo has more than 18,000 Twitter followers. He is renowned for wearing masks that make him look like the green-beanie-wearing CryptoPunk he first purchased in 2020.
How Did The NFT Scam Happen?
Even though CryptoNovo has claimed that the attack was a normal hack, Twitter user Proper has refuted CryptoNovo’s claims, suggesting that the attack was most likely a phishing attack and not a claimed hack.
According to Proper, CryptoNovo made several token authorizations to an unknown smart contract just after hackers transferred the green-beanie CryptoPunk to a safe address. The rapid action implies that someone may have tricked CryptoNovo into authorizing a malicious DApp to drain his tokens.
In the suspected hack, CryptoNovo lost two CryptoPunks, among other NFTs worth more than $300,000. Other non-fungible tokens apparently stolen from the influencer include Meebits, CloneX, Mutant Ape Yacht Club, and Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs.
In the meantime, CryptoNovo has recovered his stolen CryptoPunk #3706, although the owner sold the digital item shortly after the scam attack. The hacker sold the stolen NFT to a new owner for just 75 ETH ($94,751). The scammers transferred the other stolen CryptoPunk to an unknown phishing address.
