FIFA-Metaverse-Games

The governing body of the international football competition, FIFA, has teamed up with blockchain-powered video game companies Uplandme, Matchday, Phygtl, and Altered State Machine to launch four metaverse games ahead of World Cup in Qatar.

In a November 10 press release, FIFA confirmed launching of four blockchain-powered games. The announcement comes just a few weeks before the World Cup in Qatar starts. The highly anticipated event will go live from November 20 to December 18.

FIFA Launches Four Metaverse Games

FIFA has unveiled a portfolio of future-focused web 3.0 games to entertain and engage a wider group of fans ahead of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Among them include “AI League: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition,” a 4-on-4 casual football game played between AI-controlled characters, with player input at fun and tactical moments.

FIFA has also unveiled the Matchday Challenge: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Edition, a highly engaging casual social prediction game based on football cards. The game allows sports fans to enjoy not from just “getting it right” but by being the best among their friends.

The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 in the Upland metaverse is another newly launched game from Uplandme. It’s a metaverse game mapped to the real world, where players can buy and sell virtual properties.

The last game is Phygtl – FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, a fan engagement mobile application that takes fandom into a new dimension. The game allows fans to augment a golden-globe-football right from the palm of their hands into their real-life environments.

Phygtl game will allow fans to own a little fragment of it to attach and eternalize their handpicked FIFA World Cup pictures and video moments. While commenting about the new partnerships, Romy Gai, the Chief Business Officer at FIFA, remarked:

“This is a hugely exciting group of partnerships we’ve entered into as we embrace a new, digitally-native football fan and engage with them in the spaces we know they are already active within.”

“As we continue to build our gaming strategy long into future, it’s certain that web 3.0 will have an important role to play, and this marks the start of our journey.”

FIFA To Launch More Fans Engagements

In the meantime, FIFA has hinted at launching more blockchain-based engagements in the future. It’s worth noting that in May, FIFA inked a partnership deal with PoS blockchain protocol Algorand. At the time, the partnership established Algorand as the official blockchain partner for FIFA.
