In light of the national football team’s FIFA World Cup win last weekend, the Argentina football league has joined the nascent crypto space. The Argentina Football league has teamed with Uplands to showcase its football experience in the metaverse.
Argentina Football League Enters The Metaverse
On December 22, the Argentine Football Association (AFA) confirmed its official partnership deal with the Silicon Valley-based web3 firm Uplands to showcase its football experiences in the metaverse.
The new partnership appeared a few days after Uplands created a metaverse experience showcasing the Argentine National team with France replay. The metaverse featured Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe’s shootouts goals during the Qatar world cup.
Under the new integration, the country’s professional football league, “Liga Profesional de Fútbol (LPF),” anticipates leveraging Uplands metaverse capabilities to power fan engagement between Argentinean football fans, teams, and players.
Moreover, the Argentine Football League plans to explore other gamified opportunities, including various Argentine football digital collectibles such as clubs, players, tickets, highlights from games, historical moments, and other exclusive offers.
The new partnership will give crypto and football fans ownership of highlight videos of moments from the LPF matches. Upland will also allow football fans to start a virtual business, reselling their LPF NFTs in user-owned shops in the metaverse.
The Argentine Football Association intends to offer digital land ownership, asset creation, and a virtual economy. According to the announcement, all proceeds from NFT sales will fund the Argentinean top-flight league operations.
Other Sports Institutions In The Metaverse
The metaverse space has attracted several sports-focused institutions and leagues in the past few months. The racing giant is a recent perfect example to showcase interest in investing in the metaverse. In August, Formula 1 filed a trademark application related to NFT and metaverse.
According to data submitted, Formula One anticipated offering NFT and crypto-powered goods and services. It also plans to showcase its highly anticipated Nov 2023 grand Prix in the metaverse.
It’s worth noting that Portugal National team captain and former Manchester United forward striker Cristiano Ronaldo recently partnered with Crypto exchange Binance to showcase his football career in the metaverse.
