We invite you to explore one of the most important devices of the information age, the “Smartphone.” The term was first used in 1997 and was marketed in 2001, but we will start our journey back in 1993 to look at the evolution of the Smartphone and its industry.

Dubbed as “The Personal Communicator”, the IBM Simon was not only an early cell phone, had a touchscreen interface but could e-mail, page, fax and had many basic features of later PDA’s such as a calendar, address book, world clock, calculator and even a few games.
