Former CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson says in her new book that a source confirmed that the federal government hacked her computer to spy on her.
Attkisson’s book is called Stonewalled: My Fight for Truth Against the Forces of Obstruction, Intimidation, and Harassment in Obama’s Washington.” The New York Post published an excerpt ahead of the Nov. 4 release date.
In it, Attkisson details how her work and personal computers were compromised after she started looking into the Fast and Furious, Benghazi, and other White House scandals.
A source told her the hack was a “sophisticated entity that used a commercial, nonattributable spyware that’s propriety to a government agency: either the CIA, FBI, the Defense Intelligence Agency, or the National Security Agency.”
Attkisson says the intruders took her Skype password and used the audio to listen in on what she was researching. She also accuses a government-related group of placing classified documents deep within her computer’s operating system. The journalist thinks this was an effort by the government to target her or some of her sources.

Her book also discusses the troubles the reporter faced when trying to publish some stories. Attkisson explained the media defends President Obama for offenses they would be attacking Republicans over because he shares their political beliefs.
Attkisson wrote that one of her bosses at CBS would label conservative analysts as just that, but liberal analysts were just “analysts.” She added, “And if a conservative analyst’s opinion really rubbed the supervisor the wrong way, she might rewrite the script to label him a ‘right-wing’ analyst.”
