And a question arises: What does Obama mean by “evolving” views on gay marriage? Is the president afraid of God or the country’s homophobic tendencies blocking the tunnel to more presidency?
On Thursday, the president spoke at a fundraiser for the gay community in New York City, stating, “I believe gay couples should have the same legal rights as every other couple in this country.” Obama raised over $750,000 at the event, which upset many LGBTQ individuals and their allies. This historic event was soon followed by Governor Andrew Cuomo’s decision to allow gay marriage in New York.
Obama told 600 rich supporters of gay marriage that “Since I started my public life, and since I can remember what my mother and grandparents taught me, I have believed that it is wrong to discriminate against people.” He continued, “I had no choice; that’s how I was born, in Hawaii.”
Obama continues to use his undying loyalty to Christianity as a sort of crutch but has said that he rarely goes to church. For such a progressive, liberal kind of guy, I have to say that I am thoroughly confused. Oh, and taking a three-quarters of a million dollars from the gay community while still “evolving” sort of sounds like stealing candy from a baby. Or maybe it’s just me.
