The Connection between Rhett and Link
Rhett McLaughlin and Link Neal first met in September 1984 on their first day of first grade at the elementary school. Soon enough, they were caught writing swear words on their desks, so the teachers had to keep them inside during recess. This is where they found the inspiration for their shows – in the coloring books with mythical creatures they were given during detention.
When they were both 14 years old, Rhett and Link wrote a screenplay titled Gutless Wonders and started shooting a film based on it. They never completed the film but they did revisit it years later when they read what they wrote for their Good Mythical Morning channel.
In high school, the duo continued their creative streak by making a parody film of the classic Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex. They also formed a Christian punk rock band with some friends called The Wax Paper Dogz.
In 2008, the friends made a documentary about their meeting titled Looking for Mr. Locklear. They also wrote a song and posted it on YouTube.
Rhett and Link Net Worth: The Amazing Friendship and Success of the Famous YouTube Duo
While in college, Link and Rhett made videos and did comedy sketches for a religious organization called Cru. This was when they started working on their signature comedy style. When they graduated from college, both Rhett and Link quit their day jobs as engineers and continued to work with Cru. They made comedy videos for conferences and meetings but eventually transitioned to YouTube videos without Christian ministry.
In a few short years, the childhood friends turned a comedy channel into an empire. From their beginnings on YouTube, Rhett and Link have expanded to many other arenas.
