HasanAbi Net Worth: From The Young Turks to a Multimillionaire Streamer
HasanAbi’s income was modest at the beginning – he didn’t even start out as a streamer. He embarked on his career path working at his uncle’s news network, followed by hosting several video series and shows before he earned his fame. Soon enough, he became famous for his style and political commentary. Let’s see how his career and his annual revenue progressed over time.
Early Career
Hasan Piker comes from a long line of politically active figures, including his uncle Cenk Uygur, the co-founder of The Young Turks news network, which has somewhat of a progressive slant (albeit to a lesser degree than Hasan’s streams). While in college, he interned in the ad sales and network department at TYT and, after he graduated, he started working in their ad sales and business department.
Not long after, Hasan Piker started hosting segments for The Young Turks when the organization needed a fill-in. This soon became a permanent position in which Hasan Piker worked as a host and producer of the news show. It was clear from even these early days that Piker had a bright future in political media.
While working at The Young Turks, Piker contributed political content to HuffPost between 2016 and 2018.
The Breakdown and Agitprop with Hasan Piker
In 2016, while he was still working for The Young Turks, Piker created and hosted a TYT Network video series titled The Breakdown. The series aired on Facebook and was mostly based on left-leaning political analysis targeted at millennials who supported presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. In 2018, the show was nominated for Best Web Series at the Shorty Awards.
In 2019, Piker created and hosted his second TYT series called Agitprop with Hasan Piker.
By January 2020, he was ready for a new challenge. He announced his departure from the news company to focus on his career as a Twitch streamer.
Career on Twitch
Hasan Piker started using Twitch to stream in March 2018, while he was still working at TYT. He initially used Facebook but shifted his focus to Twitch to appeal to the younger audience on the platform. He also did this because he felt there was a lack of leftist representation among streamers.
Not long after he became active on the platform, the Twitch streamer became a popular left-wing political commentator. Consequently, KTTV invited him to appear on their The Issue Is and the political podcast Chapo Trap House.
In addition to being a political commentator, Piker also streams gameplay and commentary of different video games on his Twitch channel. He often uses his alter ego “Hank Pecker“, a caricature of a right-wing redneck.
In October 2020, US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez partnered with Hasan Piker and his fellow Twitch streamer Pokimane and organized a stream of a popular multiplayer video game Among Us. They did this for the Get Out the Vote initiative. In the stream, which followed a day later, US Representative Ilhan Omar and Ocasio-Cortez played the game with Piker and other streamers. The initiative was a resounding success and reached a concurrent viewership of nearly 700,000 people (about as high as viewership ever gets on Twitch).
For context, Ninja, one of the most popular streamers in the world, streamed Fortnite with Drake, one of the most famous musicians in the world, and it brought in about 100,000 fewer concurrent viewers than Hasan’s Among Us stream.
That same year, during the first US presidential debate in September, Piker’s streams with political commentary were watched by over 125,000 people concurrently. His stream covering the results of the presidential election counted 230,000 viewers, making it the sixth most-watched source of election coverage across both Twitch and YouTube.
Two of his streams were especially popular. During election week, Piker was the most-watched Twitch streamer by far with his streams reaching a cumulative viewership of 6.8 million hours. Piker’s Twitch stream of the coverage of the January 6 United States Capitol attack was watched by 231,000 concurrent viewers.
Today, HasanAbi’s Twitch channel has over 2.7 million followers and that number only continues to grow.
Controversies and Bans from Twitch
In August 2019, Hasan Piker used one of his Twitch streams to criticize US Representative Dan Crenshaw, a controversial right-wing figure who served in Afghanistan. He spoke about Crenshaw’s support of American military interventionism, saying:
“What the fuck is wrong with this dude? Didn’t he go to war and like, literally lose his eye because some mujahideen, a brave fucking soldier, fucked his eye-hole with their dick?”
On top of this, the same stream criticized American foreign policy and made some rather controversial remarks relating to the 9/11 attacks, one of which was “America deserved 9/11”.
This behavior led to an outrage on social media channels and was even covered by Fox News, among other media outlets. Even though Piker described his comments as satirical and said he used it as “someone who’s been historically oppressed blowing off steam”, Twitch banned him for one week. Piker is well known for his satirical comments and he often makes fun of critics who thought he was being serious.
This wouldn’t be the only time the streamer would get banned from the platform, though. He has been known to make controversial comments in his streams, including his use of the anti-white slur “cracker” in 2021. Piker was banned from the platform for one week on December 13, 2021, for using this term.
Piker also got involved with the Asmongold Twitch ban following his recent anti-Palestinian comments. Before Asmongold’s ban, Piker invited him on to his Twitch stream to discuss issues of LGBTQ+ rights in Palestine and other Middle Eastern cultures. In the conversation, Asmongold refused to back down from his controversial opinions.
Career on YouTube
In addition to Twitch, Hasan Piker has been very active in his political commentary on YouTube. His YouTube channel reached over a million subscribers in 2022 and mostly features highlights of his Twitch streams. He also lets viewers create their own clips channels to upload clips of his streams themselves (an uncommon practice).
Fast forward to today, and the main HasanAbi YouTube channel has 1.43 million subscribers. He also has a YouTube channel dedicated to vlogs with over 212,000 subscribers.
Earnings from Streaming
The bulk of HasanAbi’s income comes from YouTube and Twitch. His YouTube channel reportedly generates up to $46,000 per month, or about $561,700 a year according to Social Blade data.
As can be expected, his Twitch earnings are even more impressive. The platform offers him a steady stream of donations that reportedly add between $50,000 and $90,000 a month, or between $800,000 and $1.5 million a year.
Philanthropy
Hasan Piker has involved himself in philanthropy for much of his career, regularly running massive charity streams that often bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars or even more each stream.
During Ukraine’s invasion by Russia, Piker partnered with CARE to raise over $200,000 for Ukranian relief funds, all while playing Elden Ring on his streams.
In 2023, in the aftermath of the Turkey-Syria earthquake, Piker organized a fundraiser with several other streamers and content creators. The fundraiser raised over $1.2 million for charities such as the AKUT Search and Rescue Association, Ahbap, and CARE International.
That same year, Piker’s charity drive on his Twitch channel raised over $1 million dollars for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF), Medical Aid for Palestinians, American Near East Refugee Aird, and Palestinian Red Crescent Society.

What Can We Learn from Hasan Piker’s Story?
Hasan Piker’s journey from political commentator to multimillionaire streamer has many lessons to teach us. He started his career with a clear passion for political commentary. His bold, authentic style has resonated with viewers and allowed him to stand out. Over the years, Piker has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to his values, whether through his satirical humor or left-wing political opinions, all of which helped him build a loyal audience.
This teaches us that staying true to your beliefs can create success and connections, even when it is controversial.
The American Twitch streamer has earned the bulk of his wealth from social media platforms like Twitch and YouTube. However, he has further diversified his income sources by adding merchandise sales and brand deals to his roster. Diversifying income is important for financial stability, especially when one works in digital industries that change very fast.
Piker’s growth on Twitch was partly due to his commentary on major political events. Engaging with current events has allowed him to keep his content relevant, which is a good lesson for aspiring streamers.
Finally, even though Piker has faced backlash and even temporary bans for some of his statements and his harsh way of sharing his progressive values, his ability to navigate such challenges is inspiring, as well. However, it is important to note that the potential career risks that come with provocative and inflammatory remarks on sensitive subjects are enormous. While controversy can amplify visibility, it can also lead to significant backlash, loss of partnerships, and irreparable damage to one’s reputation.
