Another proposal for casino wagering and sports betting in North America has been made, after an Alabama Gaming Bill progresses to the Senate Conference Committee.
Alabama Gaming Bill Progresses To Senate Conference Committee
The proposed bill in Alabama will look to expand gambling activities has continued to pick up speed over recent weeks.
House Bill 151 has been subject to a host of tweaks, with the specific House and Senate members disagreeing on certain aspects.
During February 2024, the House made some adjustments to the bill after asking for sports betting and casino gambling to be authorized.
These changes would introduce a lottery, while the bill’s content means the Alabama Governor had to sign a deal with the Poarch Band of Creek Indians.
Surprisingly, the Senate was against these new additions and brought a fresh version of the gaming bill – which made the concept of a lottery the main priority and left out casino/sports wagering.
This updated version of the gambling bill has now entered a Senate Conference Committee and it will now be analyzed even further.
Alabama Reflector confirmed the relevant members in the Committee, which includes Sen. Greg Albritton, Sen. Garlan Gudger and Senate Minority Leader Bobby Singleton.
The latter has expressed a sense of positivity over the future of this bill and believes it will progress through the Committee.
Senate Minority Leader Bobby Singleton said: “I think that if it hits the street, it’ll pass.”
He also revealed that the continued debate between the House and Senate may not end any time soon, as the lawmakers have not come to an agreement on the date.
The Senate have previously selected September 10th as the date in which an agreement can be made on a proposal, where the relevant members will vote on the bill.
Alabama is isolated in the prohibition of sports betting, as the states around them have already legalized the concept – as Florida, Tennessee and Mississippi all allow it.
