The metaverse is slowly becoming the mainstream choice for many institutions, businesses, and authorities to host their operations. Norway is a recent perfect example, adopting the metaverse to set out a tax office.
Norway announced its metaverse foray at the Nokios Conference on October 26. During the event, the Brønnøysund Register Center, the Norwegian tax agency, revealed plans to set up a virtual office in the Decentraland metaverse.
The Brønnøysund Register Center is a government-backed tax agency responsible for managing numerous public registers and systems for the government’s digital exchange of information.
Norway Joins The Metaverse
The Brønnøysund Register Center has teamed up with Big Four accounting firm Ernst & Young (EY) to establish a virtual office in the Decentraland, one of the most popular blockchain-powered metaverses.
The Norwegian governmental agency anticipates leveraging the metaverse functionality to reach its next generation of users. While commenting about the innovation, Magnus Jones, the Nordic Innovation lead, remarked:
“Kudos once again to Norwegian authorities who dare to make moves to bring clarity in a complex landscape. Building further on issuing worlds first guidance on how to tax DeFi and also NFTs, and being a front runner in the crypto space in general.”
“More and more authorities see a clear need of being present at the platforms where mainly younger generations are both for tax and legal purposes with regards to information.”
Other Authorities And Institutions In The Metaverse
The metaverse has seen massive reflux of governments and agencies investing in the metaverse space in the past few months. Earlier this month, United Arabs Emirates teamed up with Multiverse Labs to launch a new city in the metaverse to boost tourism.
Last week, the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) announced the launching of its fully operational metaverse. Interpol noted that the new virtual world would allow it to offer immersive training courses to law enforcement bodies across the globe.
