Tamadoge Ultra Rare NFTs became the top trending collection on market-leading NFT marketplace OpenSea on Thursday.
The collection of pets had been on sale via auction for a week with a starting price of 1ETH.
But that price was blown out of the water as a flurry of late bids and interest saw the price skyrocket.
By the time the auction was finished, more than 257ETH (approx. $345,000) had been spent on the 100 pets.
Tamadoge #1 had received the top bid for much of the week and eventually sold for 4.463ETH – less than four of the other NFTs.
The highest seller was Tamadoge #42 for 6.10ETH (approx. $8,000).
Both are looking like good investments as it stands, with the Ultra Rare floor price – the cheapest available – currently at 8ETH and only four of the 100 available for less than 50ETH.
Tamadoge Pets Not Just a PFP Collection
Unlike many other NFT collections that get released, the Tamadoge Pets will not just be a profile picture collection made to look good on social media.
Instead, they will be a crucial part of the Tamadoge universe – dubbed the Tamaverse – which includes play-to-earn gaming and the trending meme coin TAMA.
The pets, styled on 90s craze Tamagotchi, will see players look after, feed and treat their pets and watch them grow. Then, when they are fully grown, players can battle each other for the chance to move up a leaderboard and earn rewards.
A total of 21,100 Tamadoge NFT Pets will be released, with the 100 Ultra Rare Pets boasting boosted stats that will see them have an increased chance of winding up at the top of the leaderboard.
Other P2E arcade games are also being developed, with the first, Enter the Tamaverse, well into development and looking like a fun side-scrolling platform game in the vein of Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog.
The first screenshots and development images of the game were released this week and received with much excitement by the community.
Another app in development will see the pets jump into life. First the 2D pets will become 3D and then, by Q4 2023, an augmented reality app will be released.
This will see pet holders able to take them out into the real world to explore and hunt for prizes and rewards.
The NFT pets also feed back into the TAMA token – the meme coin which has seen huge volume since launching its initial exchange offering (IEO) at the end of September.
It pumped nearly 2,000% from its presale price after its IEO on OKX and although the price has retraced, there are still bullish indicators that show the coin could break out in the coming weeks.
Volume remains high – trailing only Dogecoin and Shiba Inu in the meme coin category – and above longer established projects such as BabyDoge, Dogelon Mars and RichQuack.
Etherscan data also shows the number of holders of TAMA continues to rise despite the fluctuating price, indicating that while some are trading and scalping, even they are keeping positions in the coin because of its potential.
Furthermore, the Tamadoge game also directly helps the price of TAMA. To feed and treat the NFT pets, players will need to buy digital assets such as food and toys from the Pet Store.
Each pet store transaction, bought with TAMA, comes with a 5% transaction fee that is sent to a burn address – making TAMA, which already had a small supply of just 2 billion coins, deflationary.
More Tamadoge NFTs to Follow
Even if you missed out on the 100 Ultra Rare pets, another 21,000 will hit the market soon.
The next collection to be released is the rare tier of 1,000 pets, with details to be released in the coming days.
Then, further down the line, 20,000 common Tamadoge pets will be released.
