Is your job demanding? Stress can account for 40% of all work-related illnesses and has remained a major issue in the global workforce.
Having the skills to be able to deal with pressure in a demanding position is a well sought after skill, but looking after your own wellbeing whilst doing so is something that shouldn’t be overlooked.
Here are some ideas that can help you to unwind, in order for you to rejuvenate and stay on top of your schedule :
Cut Down On Coffee & Smoking
Nicotine and coffee are strong stimulants that can lead to increased anxiety, which is not what you want when trying to relax. If you really need them to get through the day, check out these healthy coffee recipes, but aim to drink less. Whenever you can, try to cut back on smoking too and avoid using it as a way to cope with stress.
Have A Chat
The power of conversation is a great way to beat stress. Having a relaxing chat with a friend or colleague is a great way to unwind. It will also give you the chance to stretch your legs and gather your thoughts before you get back to your work pile.
Know Your Limits
We all strive to do our best at work, but we need to know our limits too. Being able to manage pressure is a great quality, but don’t take on more than you can cope with. It’s okay to say no, and don’t hesitate to ask for help. You don’t want to burn out completely over time.
Unwind At Home
As tempting as it is to check emails at home, stop! Remember this is your time and it is a time to unwind. Set a limit on your working hours, switch off your emails and set aside time to relax. Instead, pick up a book or take a nice relaxing walk and really clear your head. A healthy work-life balance is vital.
Get Enough Rest
Give your body the sleep it needs which is at least seven to nine hours a night. Your stress levels will drop when you are well rested and you will be able to take on your job challenges with more composure.
