Social media is ever present in our technology-driven society. In fact, having only one social media account is no longer enough–an individual must have a Facebook, a Twitter, an Instagram, a LinkedIn, etc., etc. Unsurprisingly, millennials are the most active on all social media channels. social media demographics

Evidently, Facebook is the king of social media, as 72% of all adult Internet users have a profile on the site. Instagram is most popular among blacks, LinkedIn among whites, and Facebook among Hispanics. Education-level and socioeconomic status play a huge role in the number of users on LinkedIn, as the increase in both leads to an increased likelihood of profile creation on these platforms. Each social media platform has unique offerings for users, thus differences in the demographics of social media users arise depending on the platform.
