Twitter seems to be the one platform that I get the most complaints about. Nobody seems to know how to utilize it to their advantage.

And for good reason.

Here are just a few of the complaints that I hear:

1. The stream moves WAY too fast

2. There are a ton of bots

3. There are a ton of people who just self-promote all the time

4. You only have 140 characters

5. Finding people to follow can be a pain

6. There’s too much gibberish

7. DM’s are full of spam

8. Nobody is retweeting you

9. Too many quotes and no real conversation

10. Too many companies and not enough people

11. Your conversion is low or nonexistent

12. Can’t find the time to tweet

13. Your numbers aren’t raising fast enough

14. You’re following everyone back, but nobody is engaging with you

15. Don’t understand the twitter etiquette

16. Information overload

17. Don’t know what to tweet about

18. Don’t want to be labeled a “follower”

19. Unsure who to even follow

20. It’s too hard.

These are all valid frustrations BUT with the right training, you, too, can become a master at Twitter.

I’ll be releasing a video course that will cover every frustration posed above.

But for now, here are 10 ways in which you can improve your Twitter engagement:

1. Can’t find the time to tweet? I call B.S.! Look at your twitter stream 3 times a day for 10 minutes each. By doing this, you’ll find people to start a conversation with, you’ll find a few things to RT and hopefully you’ll be able to reply to a few people that have tweeted you. In only 10 minutes, 3 times a day, you can keep active & engaged on Twitter.

2. Don’t worry about the numbers. Of course you should build up your numbers of people who are not only within your targeted market but also like to engage with others. You find these people by reading & sharing other people’s blog posts. So it will take time to build up your following, but focus on engagement.

3. If you think there are too many bots, you’re right. But the great thing is, you can block & mark a spam within 2 seconds. So viola!

4. Nobody is labeling you a follower. It’s just the term used for Twitter. In fact, in time, you’ll be labeled an influencer in your field, if you stick around and get as engaged as possible while giving valuable info.

5. Don’t even worry about those obsessive self-promoters. Don’t follow them, don’t engage with them, don’t even look at ‘em. Do your thang and don’t worry about anyone else.

6. Work those 140 characters like they’re the last 140 characters you’ll ever say. Be enticing, be engaging, be FUN! You have the knowledge, expertise and awesome personality, so get out there and say it with GUSTO!

7. Twitter, and social media in general, has nothing to do with conversion. I’m probably going to get a lot of backlash for that statement, but it’s so very true. Twitter is there to showoff your knowledge & to get engaged with those who are interested in what you have to say and vise versa. If they like your knowledge, they will feel confident in your skills to go to your site and hire you.

8. Yes, the stream does move fast, but you don’t have to catch every single tweet. One of the great things about Twitter is, people repeat their tweets, so chances are, you’ll either see the tweet later or you’ll see an even better tweet.

9. You have no obligation to follow anyone back. If someone follows you and you’re just not interested in following them back for one reason or another, then don’t! There’s no rule that says you have to follow everyone back. It’s YOUR choice.

10. If nobody is retweeting you, maybe you’re the problem? We can all get caught up in promoting what we have to offer so sometimes we can forget that we need to share other people’s stuff & engage with them before expecting anything in return. If nobody is retweeting your stuff, then it could be that you’re not offering the right kind of valuable content or it could just be that you need to get out there a bit more and prove yourself first.

So there you have it.

The complaints & a few resolutions for you to ponder over.
