Currently, the staffing industry is looking into several key trends: reliance on predictive analytics, using data to guide decision-making, adding new types of contingent workers to the mixed workforce, focusing on cultural fit, the importance of social recruiting and employer branding, and enhancing workplace diversity. However, beneath all these trends, one main theme stands out—transformation. It’s not just that traditional institutions are failing; they are deteriorating at an increasing pace each month. Our business environment now moves as fast as technology, meaning it always seems to be speeding up. To keep up, we must not only accept change but also actively transform and adapt. This is the current state of agency recruiting.
Breaking out of the mold
Greg Savage, a well-known figure in recruitment, puts it plainly: “The recruitment agency business model is seriously flawed. It is broken. Yes. It. Is.” The focus on hitting tight deadlines and cutting costs has resulted in a loss of care. And as Savage points out, everyone is feeling the effects:
- “Clients, naively thinking they get a better service because they get agencies to compete, actually get a far worse service because they are actively encouraging recruiters to work on speed, instead of quality.”
